Just because it says he's on par with EMS Madara, doesn't mean Itachi couldn't beat him. DB4 says he and Madara were equals, it also says on Madara's page the exact same thing. And back then, Itachi had no reason to lie about it.

Maybe the fight he was in lasted 48hrs and their were too many of them??
