There were some very beautiful sculptures and artwork which was very interesting especially from the early to mid 1900's. Austrian art after 1918 is represented by Herbert Boeckl, Anton Faistauer, Anton Kolig, and Wilhelm Thöny. With over 40 paintings, 180 drawings, and numerous manuscripts, the collection includes masterpieces from all the artist’s creative periods. The Leopold museum has in its holdings 41 paintings and 188 works on paper made by this early 20th century master. In addition to the preservation of the collection, its public presentation, and ongoing scholarly reappraisals, a key objective of the Leopold Museum today is the expansion of the collection through acquisitions and the presentation of permanent loans. Their extraordinary passion for art enabled them to collect artists such as Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt – whose works, up until the 1960s, were considered taboo and so could be acquired for comparatively modest sums.
